These paintings show my memories and the cultural traditions that have shaped who I am. They show the jatras and rituals I used to enjoy. But after the earthquake, many things changed, like the places, the people, and the way these events happened. I still feel strongly connected to these traditions, but I can't experience them the same way I used to. Through these pieces of art, I try to keep those memories alive and contemplate how the emotional distance has grown over time. The works are a way for me to keep the cultural spirit that still shapes how I feel about myself and where I belong.

Biska Jatra

Dolpo, like many indigenous cultures, is increasingly affected by modernism. Without careful preservation, our unique way of life risks fading away due to climate change and outward migration. Through my paintings, I try to reflect and preserve this fragile cultural identity. Native textiles—rich in symbolism, color, and tradition—appear across almost all of my work, serving as a visual language that connects the past with the present. My art is both a tribute and a response: a way to honor where we come from while acknowledging the changes shaping our future.

Mero Kala (My Art) is an intimate exploration of self-identity, perception, and the layered nature of artistic expression. The central figure, seated in a relaxed yet introspective pose, becomes both the creator and the subject—blurring the boundary between artist and artwork. Holding a brush close to the chest, the figure suggests that art is not merely an external act, but something deeply personal, emerging from within the self. The distorted and stylized features of the body challenge conventional ideals of beauty, embracing imperfection as authenticity. The exaggerated facial lines and symbolic markings reflect inner emotions, cultural memory, and lived experiences rather than physical realism. This distortion becomes a language—one that speaks of vulnerability, confidence, and the freedom to redefine identity. The framed fragment of a face floating beside the figure represents self-reflection and duality. It hints at how we perceive ourselves versus how we present ourselves to the world. The separation of the face from the body symbolizes the fragmentation of identity in the creative process, where the artist constantly negotiates between inner truth and external representation. The bright blue background evokes openness and imagination, while the grounded earthy tones anchor the figure in reality. Together, they create a dialogue between dream and existence. Ultimately, Mero Kala is a declaration of ownership—of one’s body, one’s story, and one’s art. It celebrates the courage to see oneself honestly and to transform that vision into creative expression.

Mero Kala

Snow leopards live at the top of the mountain food chain. They prey on animals such as the Himalayan blue sheep (bharal), Himalayan tahr (jharal), ibex, and Tibetan argali. By keeping these animals in balance, snow leopards help protect the mountain ecosystem. Their presence prevents overgrazing and helps keep the land healthy. Today, only about 390 snow leopards remain. Illegal hunting, poaching, road construction, urbanization, and mining have destroyed their habitats and reduced the animals they depend on for food. When we talk about climate and nature, we must also talk about people, traditions, and wildlife. In the mountains, both predators and prey are part of this shared heritage. Among them, the snow leopard is, without doubt, the Guardian of the Himalayas.

Guardians of The Himalayas

A series of expressive figurative paintings inspired by Helianthus annuus, where the human body mirrors sunflower behavior—drawn to light, shaped by warmth, and subtly transformed. Through loose, gestural brushwork and shifting color, the figures blur into their surroundings, exploring growth, exposure, and the quiet intimacy between body and nature.

First Turning Toward Light

A gestural exploration of the human figure as landscape, where flesh dissolves into terrain. The body is treated like a mountain—eroded, shifting, unstable—formed through aggressive brushwork and fractured planes. Rather than defining anatomy, the painting suggests it, allowing form to emerge and collapse within the same moment. Cool greys and blues clash with warm skin tones, evoking tension between permanence and fragility. The figure exists in a state of transformation, caught between structure and disintegration, inviting the viewer to navigate it like a shifting topography rather than a fixed body.

Bearer of Wisdom

On a hot summer day in the Terai, children gather by the quiet lake where laughter floats over the water. A boy dives beneath the surface and rises with lotus flowers, a small treasure for the girl waiting on the shore and makes necklace out of it. Between water and land, their hands meet in a moment of shy friendship. The lotus carries the innocence of promises made under the open sky. Like the drifting flowers, the memory lingers until the next summer day brings them together again.
